SHORE was the first company in the Netherlands to provide UAV and mobile LiDAR for coastal monitoring (2015). This evolved solely by the need for more accurate data in vegetated and highly three dimensions areas (dunes, forests) or difficult to enter areas (salt marshes, mudflats) in which photogrammetry rendered poor results.

To acquire elevation data in geographically challenging areas, the mobile LiDAR systems allows for flexible mobilization on multiple platforms, such as boats, cars and UAVs. Because of its high accuracy and flexible deployment, this system is regularly used for the mapping of beach and dunes topography as well as revetments, breakwaters and embankments in The Netherlands and abroad. For the integral, area-covering mapping of both above- and under water, this system is often used in combination with SHOREs Shallow Water Scan.

Before the mobile LiDAR system was available, most of these areas were mapped with the photogrammetry technique using aerial images from UAVs or by RTK-GNSS measurements. The innovative mobile LiDAR system allows for higher flexibility than photogrammetry and results in more accurate ground surface measurements of vegetated and highly three-dimensional areas. Nowadays LiDAR is the standard for topographical measurements in SHOREs monitoring projects.
